Hiding in Fortune Centre, a short walk from Bugis Junction, this restaurant serves Japanese food that is affordable and actually very good! I was actually surprised with how delicious and well presented the food was considering that the restaurant is hidden deep in the neighbourhood.

The Salmon Mentai don was mind blowing, with perfectly torched aburi salmon on a bed of Japanese rice and topped with mentaiko and seasoning. With $9.50 for the small size (in the pic) and large size for $13. When the dish first came, I was quite disappointed as the portion looked very small but surprisingly, I was filled up after finishing it. This dish deserves an A* for blowing my mind and my tastebuds!

Spider maki ($8.50) and mango ebi maki ($9.50)

Spider maki and mango ebi maki was also so good. Between the 2, the mango ebi maki won. With the sweet mango and the salty crispy ebi, it was a party in that maki!

Ebi don ($7.50)

The ebi don was a quite disappointing with soggy tempura ebi on rice with a fried egg on top. The other dishes definitely tasted better.

Tori karage ($5.50)

Tori karage may seem very mainstream, but this tori karage definitely met the Japanese expectations with a crispy skin and a juicy chicken centre.

All in all, Japanese curry express is a hidden gem that is waiting to be found. It's a definite must try for affordable yet good Japanese food.

The drinks they serve are just canned drinks or tea bag green teas. I recommend you all to try this place and order the ebi mango maki and the salmon mentai don!

All in all, I would recommend you to try Japanese curry express!
